This will end the T's. Several misnomers here...trigeminal, twelve and twenty, as well as etymologies form Sweden and Japan.
trigeminal nerve: [tri = three, gemini = twins, therefore 3 + 2 = 5]
This is the 5th cranial nerve
tsutsugamushi: a rickettsial infection occurring in the Pacific area [Japanese tsutsuga sickness, mushi insect]
I would often ask, tongue in cheek, pediatric residents that I taught to consider this in their differential diagnoses to make them think of esoteric causes of the symptoms.
tu quo que: [Latin tu you] meaning "you too"
Tuesday: [Middle English tiwsday; Old English twi god of war, dag day]
Another rather bellicose etymology, along with Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday. I think I will stick with Sunday and Monday.
tungsten: [Swedish tung heavy, sten stone] an element
Again, the beauty of the Scandinavian etymologies.
turbidimeter: measures turbidity
Perhaps to be utilized in analyzing political discussions.
twelve: [a misnomer, from combining "two" and "eleven"]
(Also, twenty"= two and ten.)
